How Dual Immersion Works

Academic excellence in every subject, in two languages.
We use a proven "Two-Way" immersion model that blends native English and Spanish speakers, allowing them to learn from one another every day. Students develop fluency in both languages with the help of a bilingual teacher. Elementary students spend the majority of their day immersed in the Spanish language.
A typical day looks just like a regular classroom except academic instruction is delivered in Spanish. The four core subjects of math, science, language arts, and social studies are taught in Spanish, while specialist time in music and physical education is provided in English. At the middle school level, students follow a typical schedule but have one or two classes instructed in Spanish.
Language Allocation by Grade:
- Kindergarten - 1st Grade: 80% Spanish / 20% English | Core content is in Spanish; English phonics and specialist classes (Music/PE) are in English.
- 2nd Grade: 70% Spanish / 30% English | Social Studies transitions to English instruction.
- 3rd Grade: 60% Spanish / 40% English | Science content transitions to English instruction.
- 4th - 5th Grade: 50% Spanish / 50% English | Instruction is fully balanced between both languages.
- 6th - 8th Grade: Students continue with Spanish Language Arts and Social Studies classes in Spanish.
A Note on English Growth: Parents often worry their child's English will suffer. Research shows that while a "temporary lag" in English spelling or reading may occur in the early years while instruction is primarily in Spanish, this is normal. By the end of 5th grade, these students typically outpace their peers in English literacy.
