Spanish Immersion
Learning much more than a language
Our Amigos Unidos (Friends United) Spanish Dual Language Program provides students with the unique experience of learning in two languages. We bring together native Spanish speaking students with native English speakers to learn alongside one another with guidance from a bilingual teacher.
The Amigos Unidos Spanish Dual Language Program combines the district’s outstanding curriculum and high academic standards with the Spanish language and culture to deliver an exceptional dual immersion experience. This gives each student a new perspective of the global environment in which we live.
How Can Students Benefit from Dual Language Immersion?
-
Language skills: Students can be expected to reach high levels of language proficiency in both their native language and their second language.
-
Test performance: Immersion produces successful learners who demonstrate strong performance on standardized achievement tests administered in English.
-
Cognitive skills: Dual-language learners demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, creativity and critical-thinking skills; as well as an enhanced understanding of their primary language.
-
Cultural sensitivity: Immersion students tend to have a strong understanding of, and appreciation for, diverse cultures and share a broad worldview.
