Improving Safety & Security
In 2013 voters supported a referendum making significant security improvements to our schools, including secure entrances, some security glazing on main entryways and more. But there are additional improvements that can be made to further increase building safety for our students and staff.
A successful bond would provide additional safety and security improvements to schools around the district, including:
-
Improve security at Stillwater Area High School by remodeling the school's front entryway for better visibility and improved traffic flow.
-
Security strobe lights added in all buildings for high noise areas and outdoor spaces. This would ensure students and staff are alerted to an emergency, even if they are unable to hear an announcement over a loudspeaker.
-
Security glazing on windows at points of entry and/or building separations for schools that don't already have this.
Opportunities with remodeled entry at Stillwater Area High School:
- Improve security by providing for:
- Additional supervision with more staff in front office
- Create a larger space to meet the volume of students, staff, community that enter the building
- Improve how foot traffic flows within the building
- More space for waiting/visitors checking in
- Meeting space within office area
