Bond Projects

Room to Grow

Thanks to the support of voters in 2023, plans are in place and construction will soon begin on several projects that will address growth in the district, replace the district’s two oldest buildings and enhance safety of schools. As part of the $175 million bond, the district will replace elementary schools in Bayport and Lake Elmo, expand Oak-Land Middle School, and make essential safety and security upgrades across the district, with a special focus on the high school.

Design work for these projects has been completed, incorporating valuable feedback from staff, students, and parents to ensure that the new facilities meet the needs of our school community. We plan to break ground on the projects in the spring of 2025 with the new spaces expected to open for the start of the 2026 school year.

The detailed images below show what the buildings will look like from the outside, as well as concepts of learning spaces within the schools.

Bayport Elementary

The new Bayport school will be located on a 10-acre site adjacent to Barkers Alps Park. The two story building will have capacity for 600 students. The theme for the school is the river valley and the color schemes and visual elements throughout the building reflect that.

Lake Elmo Elementary

The new Lake Elmo Elementary will be located on 47 acres of land at the corner of Lake Elmo Avenue, and 10th Street NE. It will be able to accommodate up to 1,100 students and will house the Spanish Immersion program. The architecture of the school will focus on prairie landscapes, drawing inspiration from nearby the Lake Elmo Park Reserve.

Oak-Land Middle

Additional classrooms will be added to Oak-Land Middle to accommodate future growth in enrollment. Construction will include a new gymnasium with the existing gym being converted into a new media center and common area for students.
