Background Check Request

The school district will seek criminal history background checks for all applicants who receive an offer of employment with the school district. The school district also will seek criminal history background checks for all volunteers and individuals, except enrolled student volunteers, who are offered the opportunity to provide athletic coaching services or other extracurricular academic coaching services to the school district, regardless of whether compensation is paid. These positions include, but are not limited to, all athletic coaches, extracurricular academic coaches, assistants, and advisors. The school district may elect to seek criminal history background checks for other volunteers, independent contractors, and student employees.

Background checks are FREE for volunteers. Employees will be charged $15.

School board policy requires that background checks for volunteers be renewed every four years. If you are uncertain about when your background check will expire, please contact the school secretary. Volunteers will also be asked to sign a release form.

Harassment and Title IX

Notice of Nondiscrimination Policy

Stillwater Area Public Schools does not discriminate on the basis of sex and prohibits sex discrimination in any education program or activity that it operates, as required by Title IX, including in employment.

District Obligation

The district has an obligation to respond to and investigate complaints of harassment (Policy 413) and/or Title IX violations of discrimination or harassment based on sex (Policy 522).

File a Complaint

If you would like to file a complaint because you have experienced harassment or discrimination based on sex, or have been a witness to either of these policy violations, please follow the reporting procedures outlined in our policies. You can submit your complaint to the district's Title IX Coordinator, who will ensure that your case is thoroughly investigated and addressed in accordance with federal and district guidelines. Your report can be made in writing via the form below, via email or handwritten and delivered. It can also be made verbally in person or via phone.

The district will take reasonable steps to protect the privacy of the parties and witnesses during the process to the extent it does not interfere with the ability to gather or present evidence.

The district and Title IX strictly prohibit retaliation against anyone involved in reporting, witnessing or investigating a complaint.

Harassment and Violence Complaint Form

Stillwater Area School District prohibits harassment, violence, discrimination and bullying in all forms, including on the basis of a person’s actual or perceived race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex/gender (including harassment based on gender identity and expression), marital status, disability, status with regard to public assistance, sexual orientation, age, family care leave status or veteran status. If you or someone you know has experienced harassment, violence, discrimination, or bullying at school or at any school-related event for any reason, you may make a report to have the incident(s) investigated by the District. Any student, parent/guardian, or district employee may complete this form and return it to any administrator or the Human Resources Department. Alternatively, you may make a verbal or other written report to an administrator or Human Resources Department. Any district employee who receives a completed report form or any other written or verbal report will immediately notify the school principal or the District Human Rights Officer/Title IX Coordinator of the report, who will designate the person to investigate and resolve the report pursuant to the District’s policies and federal and state laws.

The District will respect the privacy of the complainant(s), the individual(s) against whom the complaint is filed, and the witnesses as much as possible, consistent with the school district’s legal obligations to investigate, to take appropriate action, and to comply with any discovery or disclosure obligations.

Minnesota Paid Leave

Minnesota Paid Leave provides payment from the State and job protections when you need time off to care for yourself or your family. MN Paid Leave is paid and managed directly by the State not the School District, however you have to notify the School District before applying for MN Paid Leave.

You can take leave for the following qualifying events:

Medical Leave:

To care for your own serious health condition, including care related to pregnancy, childbirth, and recovery.

Family Leave:

Bonding Leave - to care for and bond with a child welcomed through birth, adoption, or foster placement.
Caring Leave - to care for family member with a serious health condition
Military Family Leave - to support a family member called to active duty
Safety Leave - to respond to issues related to domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking for yourself or a family member.

How do I take MN Paid Leave?

Notify Human Resources (HR) and your supervisor 30 days prior to your leave by completing the District's Leave of Absence Form or as soon as practicable if it is an unforeseeable leave.
Apply with MN Paid Leave after you have notified HR and your supervisor. You can apply for MN Paid Leave at paidleave.mn.gov. You can also apply over the phone if needed.

After you apply, you will receive a determination from MN Paid Leave, which is the official decision from the program about whether your application was approved or denied.

If you are approved for MN Paid Leave payments, they will be sent to your bank account via direct deposit or a prepaid debit card selected in your application process.

Beginning the license renewal application

The Committee ONLY accepts paperwork from individuals during the last year of their renewal cycle. After paperwork is approved by the District Relicensure Committee and submitted into the Professional Education Licensing and Standards Board system, applications for renewal are ONLY accepted for processing by PELSB after January 1 and before June 30 of the year of license expiration.
