Board selects Dr. Funk as district's next superintendent
At a special board meeting held April 8, the Stillwater Area School Board unanimously selected Dr. Michael Funk as the district’s next superintendent. Dr. Funk is currently the superintendent of Albert Lea Area Schools, and was recently named the 2022 Minnesota Superintendent of the Year by the Minnesota Association of School Administrators.
The decision by the Stillwater Area Board is contingent on Dr. Funk agreeing to a contract with the district, as well as the results of a thorough background check being acceptable to the district. The School board expects to approve a contract in mid-April,
and if approved, Funk would begin his new position as Stillwater superintendent on July 1, 2022.
“Dr. Funk has shown our board that he not only meets, but exceeds, the hiring criteria established by our board and stakeholders. As the new leader of Stillwater Area Public Schools, Dr. Funk will be able to build on the past work and successes the Stillwater Area School District is known for, and he is committed to moving the district forward. We are excited for this next chapter of student achievements to begin,” Stillwater Board Chair Alison Sherman said in a statement.
