Career Skills Day empowers Bridge Transition students
STILLWATER, Minn. -- April 26, 2024 -- Bringing together students from Stillwater's 18-22 Bridge Transition program, the first-ever Career Skills Day recently prepared students to transition into the workforce.
An initiative centered on vocational exploration and honing job acquisition skills, Career Skills Day provided students from all over Washington County with invaluable opportunities for growth and development.
Hosted in Mahtomedi, the event featured Big Ideas USA, whose mission is to inform, inspire, and connect learners aged 13+ with career paths and professionals in skilled trades. Big Ideas set up both hands-on and virtual job simulations in over 30 career areas, giving students a taste of what it's like to work in different fields, including construction and welding.
In addition to testing different jobs, students were able to practice completing job applications and participate in mock-interviews, to refine their job-seeking skills. Providing networking opportunities with employers, service providers, and peers, the Career Skills Day offered a way to sharpen skills in a real-world setting.
Planned an organized by the Washington County Interagency Transition Committee, Career Skills Day included the work of coordinators from all six Washington County school districts, social workers, employment specialists, and representatives of special services.
Through the dedication and drive to continue this annual event, the success of Career Skills Day showcases the partnership of Stillwater Bridge Transitions and the Washington County Interagency Transition Committee to empower students with the skills and confidence they need to thrive in the workforce.
