Leave Your Phones at Home!

Leave Your Phones at Home!
Leave Your Phones at Home!

All Stillwater Area Public Schools are phone-free from the first bell to the last. This is part of the district's commitment to fostering stronger focus, deeper learning, and greater well-being for all students. Learn more about the new policy.

Why a Phone-Free Policy?

Research shows that reducing screen time during the school day helps students:

  • Stay more focused on learning,
  • Build stronger connections with teachers and classmates, and
  • Reduce stress and anxiety.

By minimizing digital distractions, we are creating a school environment where students can be fully present and engaged.

What This Means for Students

Under the new policy:

  • Students are expected to leave phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and other personal devices at home.
  • If a student needs to bring a device to school, it must be turned off and turned in to a designated storage location at the beginning of the day.

Devices will not be accessible to students during school hours.

If a Student Uses a Device During the Day

If a student is seen using a phone or other device during the school day:

  • The device will be confiscated and stored in the school’s main office.
  • It will not be returned to the student. A parent or guardian must come to school to pick it up.
  • Repeat violations will lead to a required parent conference and a response plan, and may be treated as insubordination as defined in the Discipline/Code of Conduct (learn more).

We Know This May Be Inconvenient—And We Need Your Help

We understand that requiring parents to retrieve confiscated devices may be inconvenient. However, this step is critical to ensuring the policy is effective. Family support is essential to helping students understand and respect the expectations.

By reinforcing these guidelines at home, you’re helping us send a strong message about the value of being present, focused, and respectful of learning time.
