New bus routes mean more access to transportation than anticipated
School bus routes have been redrawn and the district will be able to provide busing for more students than previously anticipated beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
As a result of families who have declined transportation, and the creation of neighborhood hubs and other efficiencies, we are able to provide bussing to almost 950 more students than expected. Unfortunately, just over 900 students who live within 2 miles of their school will remain without busing at this time and will need to find alternative transportation.
Our priority has been to redraw routes to ensure service to students we are required by law to transport. Families who live within 2 miles of school received notice last month that they may be without transportation. More than half of those families, however, have been notified that busing will now be available.
Here are a few important things to note as we implement these new bus routes:
- As of Nov. 3 we will no longer offer the early drop off times at our schools due to staffing shortages. Some accommodations may be made at specific buildings, however, to allow more time for increased carpool traffic. Please watch for additional information from your child’s principal.
- Students will not be allowed to have friends ride with them on buses due to space constraints.
As more drivers are hired, we’ll continue to add back routes to our families without service. If you know someone who may like to drive our kids to school, please have them apply at www.metrotn.com.
If you have specific questions about the new bus routes, please contact our transportation department at 651-351-8377 or email schoolbus@stillwaterschools.org.
