Pelletier Earns State Chess Championship Title
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- March 11, 2025 -- For his success at the 2025 Minnesota K-12 State Scholastic Championship, Stillwater Chess Club's Owen Pelletier was named a co-champion.
A junior, Pelletier was the only student to go undefeated in the tournament of over 300 competitors. Over his seven matches at the state championship, Pelletier won five matches and had two draws, an effort that how qualifies him to represent Minnesota at the national tournament in Middleton, Wis. this summer.
Joined by teammate Paul Grant, the Stillwater Chess Club had a strong showing at the event. Held at the University of St. Thomas, the State Scholastic Championship is the largest chess event of the year with more than 300 competitors from across the state of Minnesota.
Complete results from team and individual competition can be found on the Minnesota Chess website.
