Risley Joins Stillwater Schools as Transportation Supervisor
STILLWATER, Minn. – April 21, 2025 – Stillwater Area Public Schools announced the addition of Tom Risley as the district’s transportation supervisor. As the district’s transportation supervisor, Risley creates bus routes and is charged with the economic planning of routes.
Since 2015, Risley has served as the Director of Transportation for Becker Public Schools, where he was responsible for the student transportation system, directed maintenance for all district vehicles, and developed schedules for student bus routes. Risley also advised the district on matters involving student transportation by interpreting laws and regulations, oversaw all district inspections, cleaning, and repairs, and safety protocols.
In 2016, Risley facilitated the installation of GPS units on each district vehicle for staff and family monitoring of route progress. In 2023 Risley was named Region 3 Director for the Minnesota Association for Pupil Transportation (MAPT) and assisted in the 2024 Train the Trainer administration classes for all transportation supervisors within the state of Minnesota.
Following his 14 years of experience as a bus driver, Risley’s district experience began in 2003 when he joined School District 742 in St. Cloud, Minn. as a mechanic. He then became the Transportation Routing Coordinator where he routed over 12,000 students across 250 square miles and managed District 742’s transportation needs until 2015 prior to joining Becker.
A 2001 graduate of St. Cloud State University, Risley was a member of the United States Navy from 1988 until 2018 where he most recently served as an Equipment Master Chief Petty Officer.
