School taxes are decreasing for many residents
County property tax statements are arriving in mailboxes across the district, and many district homeowners may be pleasantly surprised to see a drop in the school portion of their taxes.
Even with the passage of new operating and technology levies last year, school taxes are decreasing for some homeowners by about 15% (assuming no change in property values.) For homeowners who have seen an increase in the valuation of their property, taxes may still be lower than anticipated.
This is due to an increasing tax base and growth in housing. New construction projects, like the Amazon warehouse along Interstate 94 in Woodbury, are helping to spread out the tax base. While the district receives the same amount of tax revenue, the actual impact is being spread out across more properties.
