Somali students share their voice
Somali students share their voice
Students from Stillwater Area Public Schools, including a number of teens from the local Somali community, took part in StoryArk camps this summer. StoryArk has collaborated with our schools since 2017 to empower, uplift and amplify youth voices, especially those of underrepresented students.
During the camps, middle school and high school students from around the area wrote and produced original podcasts, short films, and graphic novels. They also wrote lyrics to songs put to music by the alternative pop band NUNNABOVE. Muna Abdi, founder and organizer of the Washington County East African Community, helped make the experience meaningful and impactful.
Students produced and shared a highlight reel of their podcasts at the StoryArk Festival in August. Watch the highlight reel and listen to the podcasts online.
