Stillwater Boys Hockey Advances to State Semifinal

ST. PAUL, Minn. – March 6, 2025 – Following its 5-0 shutout of No. 7 Andover, the No. 2 Stillwater boys hockey program advances to the Minnesota State Tournament semifinal. The Ponies take on No. 3 St. Thomas Academy at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 7 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Stillwater’s ticket allotment becomes available for students and fans at 7:10 a.m. on Friday, March 7. Students and families should watch for an email on Friday morning that includes:
- A URL link to the tournament ticket website.
- A code to purchase tickets: Please do not share the code with others outside of the Stillwater community. This code is intended for Pony students and fans only.
The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) provides an allotment of tickets to each school that has qualified for the tournament. There is an eight ticket limit per person, however the MSHSL recommends students, families, and fans to purchase their own individual tickets from the website. Fans are highly encouraged to have a Ticketmaster account created and set up on a computer or mobile device with a credit card ready to purchase when the ticket window opens.
Tickets in the 100 and club levels are $20 each, while tickets in the 200 upper level are $13 for students and $20 for adults. Find the Xcel Energy Center seating map to be prepared when tickets go on sale.
- Section 124: Stillwater Area High School students in grades 11 and 12 only (all non-11th and 12th graders will be asked to move)
- Sections 227, 228 and 229: Stillwater Area High School students in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12
- All Other Sections/Seats: Available for all Pony fans
- General Admission (GA): Standing-room only tickets become available at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 7. General Admission tickets grant arena access, but do not provide a seat.
The SAHS Activities Office is not distributing any tickets, as all purchases must be made through the MSHSL Ticketmaster link.
Tournament Ticket Info
If the Ponies defeat No. 3 St. Thomas Academy, they advance to the State Championship at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 8. With a loss, Stillwater continues State Tournament competition in the third place game at Xcel Energy Center at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 8.
Tickets for Saturday’s events will be available following the same purchasing process on Saturday morning. No fan bus is available for Friday or Saturday’s events.

About the Ponies
The Stillwater boys hockey program advanced to the Minnesota State Tournament with a 4-3 double-overtime win over rival and top-ranked No. 1 Hill-Murray. It was Matthew Volkman’s hat trick tally that secured the Section Championship title for the Ponies to advance to the State Tournament for the first time since 2016.
Following its 5-0 quarterfinal victory, Stillwater holds a record of 23-6-0 and extends to an 11-game win streak, dating back to Tuesday, Jan. 28. Stillwater's quarterfinal matchup featured five different goal-scorers and a 23-save shutout by netminder Cal Conway.
