District revising transportation model for next fall

District revising transportation model for next fall

Getting students to school safely every day is essential. Transportation is also one of the district’s largest operational costs. As we plan for next year, we are working to build a transportation system that remains safe and reliable while operating in a more sustainable and cost-effective way.

Here’s a quick overview of what’s being developed for next year. You can visit our transportation website for more details and answers to common questions.

No final transportation plan has been adopted at this point. These are preliminary routing concepts meant to outline the challenges we’re working through and the approaches being evaluated. Our transportation team is continuing to analyze routes and make adjustments as that work progresses.

Transfer Model:

We are looking to expand a model we have successfully used for years with charter and private school transportation.

  • Morning: buses will pick up PreK–12 students and bring them to an elementary school hub. Middle school, high school, charter, and private school students will transfer buses there to continue to their school.
  • Afternoon: elementary students will be delivered home directly. Secondary students may transfer at a hub location before continuing home.

Transfers would take place at school locations, and student safety and supervision will remain a top priority.

Elementary Start Times Adjusted Slightly Later:

To support the new transfer model, elementary school hours would shift to approximately 7:55 a.m.–2:25 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Secondary school hours would remain the same. More details will be shared later this spring.

Consistent Stops:

Each student will have one morning bus stop and one afternoon bus stop. This reduces duplicate stops, improves route accuracy, and helps ensure buses are used efficiently. We will work with families with shared custody or unique circumstances.

Route Information:

Families will be asked to opt-in for transportation prior to spring break. With that information, we will build routes over the spring and summer, and families will receive route details by the beginning of August.

We understand families will have questions, and we are committed to communicating clearly and providing advance notice whenever possible. Please see our FAQs or contact the Transportation Department directly.
