Trio of Pony Student-Athletes Sign National Letters of Intent
PONY ACTIVITY CENTER -- Feb. 7, 2024 -- As three Ponies signed National Letters of Intent, they are set to continue their education and athletic careers after June graduation.
Soel Riser, Tanner Schmidt, and Anya Williams committed to Division I and Division II institutions, joining 21 fall signees to continue showcasing the depth of Stillwater athletic programs.
Name | School | Sport | Division |
---|---|---|---|
Soel Riser | Minnesota State | Track & Field | II |
Tanner Schmidt | Minnesota Duluth | Football | II |
Anya Williams | North Dakota | Track & Field | I |
A National Letter of Intent is a binding agreement between a prospective student-athlete and an NLI member institution with the commitment that the institution provides financial aid for one academic year. The regular signing period began on Feb. 7, following the Nov. 8 official signing period and football signing on Dec. 20.
A multi-sport athlete, Riser also participated in football and basketball while at Stillwater Area High School. With the intention of majoring in communications and media, Riser chose Minnesota State because it felt it was "the best option for me and will give me the best opportunities."
Drawn to Minnesota Duluth's coaching staff, Schmidt's favorite memory as a Pony was this year's football game against Mounds View, while he plans to major in business.
While also a member of the dance team at Stillwater, Williams is now set to compete at the Division I level at North Dakota for track and field. Known for its commercial aviation program, Williams looks forward to being on campus in Grand Forks and learning at one of the top schools in the United States for aviation.
