Stillwater Area Public Schools is committed to maintaining a safe learning environment for students and staff that is free from hazing. Hazing in any form is prohibited and is inconsistent with the educational goals of the district.
Hazing includes any intentional or reckless act that endangers the physical or mental health or safety of a student for the purpose of initiation into, affiliation with, holding office in, or maintaining membership in a school-related organization, activity, or team. A person's willingness to participate or apparent consent does not make hazing acceptable.
Students, employees, volunteers, contractors, and other school personnel are prohibited from participating in, encouraging, permitting, or tolerating hazing. Retaliation against a person who reports hazing or participates in an investigation in good faith is prohibited. Knowingly making a false report of hazing is also prohibited.
Anyone who believes hazing has occurred or has knowledge of possible hazing is encouraged to report it immediately to a school administrator or other school official. The district will promptly investigate reports, take appropriate action in accordance with district policy and applicable law, and respect the privacy of those involved to the extent permitted by law.
Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary action and, when appropriate, referral to law enforcement.
Hazing is not allowed by students, staff, or volunteers on or off school grounds.

Students are encouraged to report incidents immediately to a school official. Reports will be handled confidentially and in accordance with district policy and legal requirements.
