Stillwater Area Public Schools is committed to providing a safe learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. No student or nonstudent may possess, use, or distribute a weapon on school property, at school-sponsored activities, on school transportation, or in any other location where prohibited by district policy or applicable law.

A weapon includes firearms, knives, explosives, look-alike weapons, and any object or device designed as a weapon or capable of threatening or causing bodily harm, as defined in Policy 501.

Violations of this policy will result in disciplinary action in accordance with district policy and applicable law. Depending on the circumstances, disciplinary action may include confiscation of the weapon, parent or guardian notification, suspension, referral to law enforcement, and expulsion or exclusion when required by law. Students who unlawfully bring a firearm to school are subject to the disciplinary requirements established by Minnesota law and the federal Gun-Free Schools Act.

A student who discovers a weapon at school or accidentally brings a weapon to school should immediately notify a teacher, principal, or other school official. Students who promptly report or surrender a weapon in accordance with district policy will be handled as provided in Policy 501.
