School Board Goals 

In partnership with community, parents, and students, the School Board of Stillwater Area Public Schools ensures excellence in education.

Part of providing a high-quality education to our students means offering exceptional service to all of our customers. As a district committed to personal relationships, offering a high-quality customer service experience is an essential part of our mission.

We recognize, however, that at times we may not meet all of your expectations. We welcome your feedback, and encourage you to let us know if you have concerns. We’ll do our best to answer your questions and work with you to find a reasonable solution to any problems.

How to work with us to address concerns and solve problems:

1. Share your concerns with the person most directly involved (ie. classroom teacher, coach/activity advisor, etc.). Many times a concern is a result of misinformation or a misunderstanding and can be solved at the classroom or building level.

2. If after that meeting there is still an issue, bring your concerns to the building principal or appropriate supervisor.
3. If an issue remains, you may direct your concerns to the superintendent or administrative designee.
4. If there is still an issue after speaking with the superintendent/designee, you may bring your concern to the school board via email, phone (651-351-8429) or in-person during an Open Forum, which is held as part of the school board’s regular business meeting.

Speaking to the board

The school board advances its vision by focusing on student achievement, partnering with the community, and being proactive in addressing issues that affect education on local, state, and national levels.

Legislative Priorities

Each year the board approves a legislative platform, which members share with local legislators to express needs within the school district. The top priorities for this year are (1) Fund new requirements and inflationary costs, and (2) Empower local decision-making.

2024 School Board Election
A general election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 for three school board members for terms of 4 years each.

Affidavits of candidacy must be filed at the district office beginning at 8:00 a.m. on July 30, 2024 and no later than 5:00 p.m. on August 13, 2024 along with a $2 filing fee or a petition with at least 500 signatures of eligible voters in place of the filing fee. Please contact Joan Hurley at 651-351-8455 or email at hurleyj@stillwaterschools.org to schedule a time to file your affidavit for candidacy. Affidavits of candidacy will be available and can be filed during office hours (8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) Monday through Friday in the district office, 1875 Greeley Street South, Stillwater, MN 55082.

A candidate for this office must be an eligible voter, must be 21 years of age or more on assuming office, must have been a resident of the school district from which the candidate seeks election for thirty (30) days before the general election, and must have no other affidavit on file for any other office at the same primary or next ensuing general election.

Persons who file a candidacy for School Board have until 5:00 p.m. on August 15, 2024 to request that they be removed from the ballot; after August 15, 2024, the names of all remaining candidates will be included on the ballot.

Affidavits of candidacy will be posted below, in order of filing, as they become available.

Meet the candidates
The Stillwater Gazette is sponsoring a "A Conversation with the School Board Candidates" on Tuesday, October 1, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.  
The conversation will broadcast live on Xfinity Ch. 15 and streaming on Valley Access Channel's (VAC) YouTube channel. 
Three candidates - Sarah Grcevich, Katie Hockert and Robert Parker - are running for three open seats on the school board as part of the Nov. 5 election.

2023 Special Election of a Board Member Vacancy

A special election for one four-year seat will be held Nov. 7, 2023 to fill the position due to a board member's resignation.
This seat was currently held by member Eva Lee, who resigned her position effective Jan. 5, 2023. The seat will expire on the first Monday in January 2027. The board appointed a temporary member to fill this position until an individual is elected to serve the unexpired portion of the term.
