625 Policy: Media Center/Library

It is the policy of I.S.D. 834 that the I.S.D. 834 Board of Education endorses the School Library Bill of Rights, as drawn by the American Library Association, which asserts that the responsibility of the school library and/or the IMC is:

1. To provide materials that will enrich and support the curriculum, taking into consideration the varied interests, abilities and maturity levels of the pupils served.
    
2. To provide materials that will stimulate growth in factual knowledge, literary appreciation, aesthetic values, and ethical standards.
    
3. To provide a background of information which will enable pupils to make intelligent judgments in their daily life.
    
4. To provide materials on opposing sides of controversial issues so that young citizens may develop under guidance the practice of critical reading and thinking.
    
5. To provide materials representative of the many religious, ethnic and cultural groups and their contributions to our American heritage.

To place principle about personal opinion and reason above prejudice in the selection of materials of the highest quality in order to assure a comprehensive collection appropriate for users of the library

ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES AND REGULATIONS

It is a privilege afforded all students to utilize the facilities of the library, but this privilege stands to be revoked when a student violates policy, procedure or codes of reasonable conduct in the use of the space or resources afforded in the library.
