3/11/21 Business Meeting
Meeting Notes
The following is an unofficial summary of the meeting.
The school board recognized Roxy Humphrey, a fifth grade teacher at Andersen Elementary, who recently published her first children’s book.
Report for Information: On the Dial Learning Update
Superintendent Lansfeldt provided an update on the return to school for middle and high school On The Dial learners. As of Monday, all of our students who chose On The Dial learning are back in person. The superintendent also reported that all district staff who requested COVID-19 vaccinations have been offered an appointment through the state or county.
Contract Reviews February 19, 2021 to March 4, 2021
School board members reviewed recent contracts for goods and services equaling less than $50,000.
Enrollment & Finance Update
The school board received an update on the district’s current reality in the areas of enrollment and finance. The board discussed this topic in greater detail during the work session prior to the meeting.
Policy Number Alignment
The school board was asked to consider adopting a new policy numbering system that follows the Minnesota School Board Association Model Policies. Currently the board is using two different naming and numbering systems. To create clarity and transparency around school district policy, moving to one numbering system is recommended. The board is expected to take action on the recommendation at a future meeting.
Online Learning Recommendation
The school board received an update related to online learning beyond the pandemic. Families were recently asked to indicate if they would be interested in enrolling in online learning options for the 2021-2022 school year and beyond, but numbers were lower than anticipated. At this time, there is insufficient interest to support an Online Learning Academy. Instead, staff will continue developing flexible scheduling options and online courses, and work with interested families to consider how to meet the needs of students.
Action Item: Boundary realignment
The board voted 7-0 to realign the attendance boundary for a development at the corner of Hudson Road and Settlers Ridge Parkway in Woodbury. With the realignment, the area will be assigned to Lake Elmo Elementary and the 32B North and 32B South boundaries will be adjusted accordingly.
